school story: field trip to the national mall
today my class took on DC's national mall. we rode the bus and metro, walked, enjoyed the beautiful spring weather, took a rest break, walked some more, went on a "scavenger hunt" for architecture that came from ancient greece & rome [like columns, arches, domes, triangular frescos, obelisks, etc.], admired ducklings in the reflecting pool, climbed the 84 steps up to lincoln, took photos, had a picnic, walked even more, and rode the metro and bus back to school. overall it was a great day. and of course i have to share a couple stories:
1. during the picnic, sean grabbed his thermos of juice and said, "come on, ya'll. let's give a toast to miss romaneski for giving us this field trip." so they all held their capri-suns or water bottles up high and said in unison, "TOAST!" it was hilarious.
2. on the public bus back to the school, tymia and miracle befriended a middle-aged man who was lucky enough to be sitting next to us. they began talking with him about various types of foods and if they're healthy or not, etc. then following dialogue actually occurred (i'm not embellishing):
miracle: "last night my mom made beans and rice and chicken. it was really good!"
lucky man: "yeah, that's good stuff. beans are good."
tymia: "mmmm! beans are good. but, you know, they make you gassy."
(the entire back of the bus erupts into laughter.)
lucky man: "well, that's true. a lot of foods can make you gassy. but you gotta do what you gotta do. it's just a fact of life."
