help me name my present!!

My favorite birthday present this year came from Mom and Dad: a beautiful Ibenez acustic guitar with mother-of-pearl inlay along the neck and a leather strap that keeps it in place. (Do I sound like Ralphy in A Christmas Story? :) I absolutely LOVE this guitar; its tone is rich, its sound is clear, and its physique is impeccable. :)

I couldn't help but start to call it Excalibur, but i don't think this is the best name, for three reasons:

1. I didn't pull it out of a stone
2. It's not meant to be used as a weapon
3. The name seems too masculine for such a girly-looking instrument

So I've decided to ask your opinion. What do you think I should call it (her)?

Note: the inlay is a "tree of life" metaphor, just to give you material to work with.

well, my initial feeling is to name it carmen electra, on account of it's nice body, but if i think of something deeper, I'll let you know.

How about Eva? Eva is the Spanish version of Eve (and your guitar has a spanish name, Ibanez), which means "giver of life", which links to the inlay and your vivacious (another word for life) personality. :-)
The obvious reference, however, is Eva Peron, "Evita," one of your early muses. She was no angel, but certainly made an impact on the world:
1. She really connected with the downtrodden of the world, her "descamisados"
2. She was widely acclaimed as a powerful, charismatic leader. In fact, she was named "Spirtual Leader of the Nation" for Argentina just before her death.
3. She went on a "Rainbow Tour" of Europe (fun factor)
4. She built over 1,000 schools in the poorest areas of Argentina
5. She was a former actress
6. She had brown hair but often appeared as a blonde ;-)
7. She blazed a trail for women to vote and lead in her country
8. She was a "Diamond".....

I too thought of Spanish names and came up with a few: Adora,Amancio(loving),Angelita,
Alegria(angel=herald),
Benita,(beautiful)Viviana,Celestina, Milagros(joy), Desideria (longing,desire). But....how can I compete with "anonymous"(and we can probably guess who that is :) ?

Oh, I forgot...Curtis (at work) suggested "Taquin" which is French for playful.

I think the most obvious choice would be Wilson. Hey if it's good enough for Tom Hank's volleyball friend in Cast Away then it's good enough for your guitar. And who knows you might end up stranded on an island someday with nothing besides your new guitar.

Giddy-up, because it is a guitar and it makes you feel giddy and you have to "get up" to play it!! haha

I don't know who anonymous is, but my first thought was Eve, even though I thought it was kind of boring, so I like the Eva or Evita idea too!

What a beautiful guitar. I'd
like to add my suggestion.

Maya Angelou:
A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a
song.

I vote for MAYA.

You know how some people name their dog "cat"? Well, I think you should name your guitar "Piano." Then when you decide to take your guitar on a camping trip or something, you can tell everyone that you're bringing your Piano. (If they look confused, you can assure them that "it's okay--I have a carrying case.")

Clarion - a clear, reverberating sound with beautiful connotations.

I think the guitar could still be a guy -- How About Ammiano or Sancho or Santino or Fabrizio?

wow. i'm overwhelemed at these fabulous suggestions! so far, my favorites are eva, maya, and alegria. (sorry, wilson and cheesecake are obvious "no's" :), but i'll wait a bit longer to think about it and see if more suggestions come in, and then i'll post my decision...and, just so you all know, that first "anonymous" is my mom. she's creative like that. :)

How about Pluck? Or Strum? Since that's what you do to a guitar...

How about Genevieve - that' s of German origin, meaning woman. Or...Ms. Jaguar the 'gitar'; you know how I am about rhyming. Or how about Lila? That name kind of conjurs up images of intricate, rosy inlay on the neck of a guitar.

How about putting two of them together and calling your guitar Eva Alegria? It has a nice flow.

how about naming it "bob dylan"? then you can tell people, bob dylan and i are going to play you a song. plus "bob" is a good name for almost anything.

Well, anonymous (1 & 6) and I think alot alike. Eva Alegria Ibenez! You could even write a song about a name like that! :)

this could be way too late, but just wanted to put in my two cents about naming guitars. my guitar was named by a Dominican. He asked me what her name was, and was very dissapointed when I said it didn't have a name (and actually was not aware of its gender). so he promptly gave it the name that she bears today: Jennifer. so maybe you could find someone like that to simply give your guitar its name... unless she already has one.
