Adjusting to Colorado
I can tell I'm going to like it here. It's insanely beautiful--constant view of the Rockies, nice "wide open spaces," weather in the 70's-low 90's without humidity, and frequent sunshine. The culture's nice too; not nearly as face-paced as the DC area. People seem more laid back and outdoorsy. Fashion is much more low-key around here, which is an advantage for me, since I've always been one step behind when it comes to fashion and what's cool. People seem to value comfort over style. For example, this afternoon I saw a woman in a jogging outfit (pants and a jacket) that was tye-dyed aqua and pink (I was on the phone with Catherine at the time, so she can vouch for me :). The Washingtonian in me scoffed and muttered, "oh my gosh, she totally doesn't shop at Ann Taylor!", but the Coloradan in me thought, "hey, you know what? that looks comfortable and fun...you go girl!" :)
I think I'm gonna like it here. Of course, there are many differences and things that I'm still getting used to...things like:
-the Altitude (I still get winded climbing up two flights of stairs to my apartment)
-Nice drivers (they actually slow down to let me in when I have my blinker on!)
-the dry air (lotion and chapstick are essential here...along with drinking lots of water)
-Seeing the mountains in my rear-view mirror
-living alone
- seeing motorcyclists without helmets (there's no law requiring them to wear one, so most don't. It kind of freaks me out and makes me nervous.)
-people-oriented people (i.e. grocery-store cashiers, bankers, neighbors, etc.) who don't mind having a conversation with you
I might add more later...right now that's all I can think of.

I've always loved Colorado, and it is nice to see someone's outside perspective. I hope you have a wonderful time studying and living in the Denver area.
There is one thing you MUST do... and soon (especially if you have not). Casa Bonita. It is the Disneyland of Mexican food. Everyone will know where it is (off Colfax Ave), and don't go for the food (in fact, if may make you sick)... but rather go for the cliff diving, mariacha bands, ski ball and Gorilla.
whoa! cliff diving? ay caramba! i suppose i should do that BEFORE eating tons of mexican food, eh? :) and what's the gorilla? guess i'll have to fin out for myself. muchas gracias for the suggestion, randy!
Rebecca, I am so glad it is going well so far...I love seeing your journey here on your blog. =)
